The National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (or NPR-A) is a monstrous 23 million acre region located north of the Brooks Range. It was originally set aside by President Harding as an emergency oil supply for the US Navy. It is a land rich in wildlife and serves as a critical habitat for the Western Arctic caribou herd.
